Why should I get a massage?

Massage is a powerful form of self-care that helps you stay healthy by reducing stress, boosting your immune system, helping you relax, and enhancing your sense of well-being. Regular massage can relieve neck, shoulder, and back pain. Massage helps you feel better physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

How long does a massage last?

A typical massage lasts approximately one hour. If it is your first time seeing us it will take a bit longer to review your health history and answer questions. 30-minute and 90-minute sessions are available also.

What should I do during a massage?

Primarily, you should relax! Focus on your breathing and try to let go. It is up to you whether or not to talk, and most people choose to close their eyes. Feel free to ask questions at any time. Remember that this is your massage and you should do what feels most comfortable to you.

How much of my body will be massaged?

This will vary depending on the length and type of massage you choose. The massage will never exceed your comfort level with touch – just let us know if there are areas you’d like us to avoid. During the pre-massage interview, we will go over the areas you want to focus on and discuss your concerns.

Do I have to get undressed to get a massage?

For chair massage and Thai Yoga massage, you remain clothed. During a typical table massage, you undress down to your comfort level, but your body always stays draped, and only the part of your body currently being massaged is undraped. Feel free to discuss any concerns with us.

How often should I receive a massage?

Your personal situation will determine how often you receive a massage. For chronic pain or medical conditions, your therapist and/or medical doctor will help you determine what is best for your needs. Massage is one of the best things you can do for yourself on a regular basis to stay healthy and maintain a sense of well-being, in spite of stressful life situations.

What should I expect during my session?

If you have never had a massage or if this is your first visit to Relax! Massage Therapy & Skin Care, we want to put you at ease, talk with you a bit, and answer any questions you may have. We have a client information form that you will complete, and when you are finished we will discuss it together. We like to know why you are here, if you are in any pain, what your goals are for the session, and any concerns you may have that we need to address.

After all your questions are answered, your therapist leaves the room so you can get undressed and get on the table. There is always a top sheet to get under and it will stay draped over you throughout the massage. Your therapist will work on one body part at a time and welcomes your feedback so the experience can be tailored to meet your expectations.

When the massage is finished your therapist will leave the room so you can get dressed. When you’re dressed, the therapist will bring you some water and discuss a treatment plan with you if necessary. Then, you will be taken to the lobby to schedule your next massage and checkout. You will be reminded to drink a lot of water for the remainder of the day and take an Epsom salt bath if possible.
